Rockstar Games stepped up and kicked in prize money, they provided funds to make other things happen, sent boxes of shirts so everyone could go home with a contest souvenir and they continue to sponsor some deserving riders which in turn helps our sport. I've said it before and if you haven't already sent them a word of thanks, right now wouldn't be too late.

I would be a liar if I said everything in bodyboarding is rosy, healthy and prospering. There was a point some fifteen years or even as early as ten ago when things were pretty good. We were making decent money, traveling, buying stuff and feeling pretty good about our achievements. Somewhere between past and present series of events took place, which adversely affected bodyboarding in a negative manner.

We are fortunate in present times to have an event like the Mike Stewart International Pipeline Pro presented by Rockstar games. We are opportune to have other events, media coverage and some companies behind a select group of athletes and contests. Okay, so that's sort of rosy but far away from being a rose garden.

After going away to Europe for a few years and returning in 1999, I saw a huge difference and not in a positive way. Gone were the days when everyone helped each other progress, vanished were those that perhaps contributed to events that maybe helped put those greedy people where they were. Don't get me wrong, I'm not stereotyping everyone but those reading this who thought about nothing but themselves will know this is a message to them.

As I said, I'm not stereotyping but, finding generosity these days is a rarity. Thankfully there are people that still care and unselfishly share their wealth. DB Dunlap, a man whom every visitor to the North Shore has seen, a bodyboarder himself, constantly surrounded by women (only one matters to him; Marilyn, his wife) and long time video fanatic, is one. Knowing the shambles many bodyboarders are in and wanting to help out with this web site, he munificently contributed the majority of the frame grabs you may have or will see throughout this site. Quid pro quo? For him, it's the satisfaction knowing he made a difference to this project. Scott Aichner is another. An ex professional bodyboarder from the third generation, now top lens man, he has given me a stock of images to enhance my work, just out of the kindness of his heart and also knowing that it will contribute to bodyboarding.

Just a quick message, if you can give, do it, people remember and although you never should assume payback sometimes there is that's when it either hurts or helps, depending on what side of the coin you were/are on.

Need some bodyboarding advice, just ask and I'll oblige, need some consulting, no problem. Just stay away from my Hagen Dazs.
